  about team

SpotLink can trace its roots back to April of 2000 when it began life as Bob Hood & Associates, a sole proprietorship owned by the founder, Bob Hood. During the first 9 months of operations, the founder was the only full time employee, and was focused primarily on doing load testing to find bottlenecks in a massively parallel Java application for Claritas.During this time, Bob found that many of the bottlenecks were not application related, but instead caused by IT infrastructure issues, which he helped the Claritas staff identify and correct.

In 2001, it changed its name to La Jolla I.T., highlighting its emphasis on improving the network infrastructures of small businesses. As the name suggests, it was based out of La Jolla, and served businesses predominately in the costal San Diego area.During that year, it took on many new clients, including Quality Built. The work for Quality Built started out as a project to remove a virus that had infected the entire network, but grew into managing their entire IT infrastructure.Soon, Bob and his staff helped convert a custom multi-gigabyte Microsoft Access application into a SQL based application.Using a distributed architecture with synchronizing databases, this reduced the overhead of the application by over 90%, and allowed all the staff to operate much more efficiently. The scalability of this new SQL based application helped Quality Built grow from a 19 person regional company, to a national company with over 200 field reps.

In July of 2002, it incorporated as La Jolla Information Technologies, Inc., the legal name it still has today, and continued to work under the DBA (Doing Business As) La Jolla I.T. During this same period, La Jolla I.T. continued to grow its client base throughout the San Diego area.

Up to this point, the company had largely operated as a virtual office, with most of the work done from the founders or staff’s homes. But with a growing employee base, in July of 2005 it took out office space in Sorrento Valley in San Diego and added more IT professionals as well as an Operations Manager. It continued to increase its client base, including some clients that were outside of the San Diego area.Hence, along with the move it started operating under the name TekWorks Team to show that it was more than just regional to the La Jolla area.

In July 2008, TekWorks Team moved its main office to the Kearny Mesa area so that it could better and more quickly serve all of San Diego County.About this same time, it began a relationship with Inteligro, a business automation company located in Vista, California.Having a very complementary business mix, TekWorks Team began a very close joint partnership with Inteligro.

In January 2009 through December 2009, La Jolla Information Technologies Inc. also started operating under the InteliGro DBA, and Bob Hood was installed as CEO of both companies.Combined these two companies had approximately 300 clients throughout Southern California.

In late 2009, a decision was made to end the joint venture, and La Jolla Information Technologies, Inc. switched to operating under the SpotLink DBA.Bob Hood returned to focus solely on managing SpotLink. In January of 2010, as part of its 2010 business plan, SpotLink introduced fixed priced managed services through its Carefree Computing program.

In December 2011, SpotLink relocated to its new offices on Murphy Canyon Road.In 2012, SpotLink added a Software Development and Business Automation unit, as well as augmented its IT services with Cloud services, virtualization services, web design, and software asset management. Spotlink continues to evaluate new offerings so that it is consistently able to offer its clients cutting edge services that bring solid ROI and productivity improvements.
